A message from Scott Miyako:
So here's a little background on Miyako Designs and myself. I come from an extensive musical and technical background. I am a guitarist of10 years, a drummer of 6, a violinist of 16 years, a mechanical engineering graduate from UCLA and was a speaker cabinet designer for a PA company. I formed Miyako Designs in the summer of 2008 because I wanted to begin producing musical instruments that combined my passion for vintage tube amps and my love for woodwork. When I first started playing electric guitar, I was immediately drawn to the craftsmanship and beautiful designs of the guitars. As with many guitarists I bought a shiny new Strat but overlooked the amp and just bought the cheapest thing I could find. 5 years, 3 guitars and about 10 stomp boxes later, I was still playing on the same old amp. I finally decided I needed to really find an amp that I loved as much as my guitars. I started asking around and luckily one of my friends let me try his Fender Deluxe; I was in love. I never realized all the tone I was searching for was simply waiting for me in that vintage tube circuit. After that my whole guitar philosophy changed and I began my hunt for the ultimate amp. During my search I realized that something was missing in the amp market; it was the craftsmanship. All amps I found were made out of some kind of pressed ply or fiber wood and covered in vinyl or cloth. There was no beautiful woodwork or attention to detail as there is with guitars. I realized this needed to change. I decided to make my own amp out of an old salvaged tube amp and premium hardwoods that I had left over from some furniture projects. Some of my friends saw what I was doing and started asking me if I could do speaker cabinet work for them. When I saw how many people were drawn to the woodwoork of my cabinets, I decided I needed to start sharing them with the musician community. Today, Miyako Designs is making custom hardwood and covered cabinets built completely to customer spec, and we are also looking to start producing our own line of tube amps.
